Background Information

Dragon Ball

This is the first series of the whole Dragon Ball Z trilogy. It starts out with Goku being a child from an another planet called Vegeta. He is of saiyan decent, and was sent to planet Earth to destroy it as he grew older. However, he bumped his head when he came to Earth and forgot all of his memory. So then he was taken care of by Gohan, the martial artest who raised Goku. Goku is very mysterious because of his strength, but is very kind and helps everyone. He makes friends like Krillen and Bulma, but like the title; the Dragon Balls are always looked for since they an grant the user who finds all seven dragonballs one wish.

Dragon Ball Z

This takes place after Dragon Ball. During Z about five years or more pass in the series. But in Z Goku and all of his friends are grown up. But the main plot is the same, battling evil bad guys to defend the Earth. The show starts out with other Saiyans coming to Earth for the Dragon Balls. This is the longest of the trilogy with 276 episodes and 13 movies. This show got me into anime, but this show is my all time favorate show because of the non-stop action!

Dragon Ball GT

Appearing after Z everyone is now a lot older with the kids in Z starting to date. The charecters look a lot older, but if you watched Z you won't miss much. The only downfall to GT is that the first 20 some episodes aren't that action packed. But later on it becomes amazly action packed with new Saiyan levels, Super Saiyan 4. This was a good end to the Dragon Ball Trilogy, Goku power!

All About DBZ

What are the Dragon Balls?

There are two sets of Dragon Balls; a set of black stars and a set of orange stars. When I refer to the star colors the Dragon Balls each have different amount of stars in the middle of the ball. There are a total of seven stars; thus, a total of 7 Dragon Balls in each set. The black starred Dragon Balls aren't seen until GT. Each of the 7 Dragon Balls have a number of stars on it signifying it's number of the seven. The orange stared Dragon Balls(the normal ones) scatter around the Earth. A person has to collect all 7 and then call out Shenron, the Dragon that comes from the Dragon Balls who can't grant one wish. [The Balls are later modified to make two wishes]. After the wish is made the balls once again scatter throughout the Earth. For the black starred Dragon Balls once a wish is made is scatters throughout the galaxy, and if the balls aren't returned to the planet the wish as made on the planet will blow up.

  • North Kaio's Planet - A very tiny planet in the otherworld, only approximately 100 meters or so in diameter. Despite its’ small size, it has 10x Earth-normal gravity. It is destroyed by Cell's self-destruction after Goku teleported him there during the Cell Games.

  • Pital - A hospital planet.

  • Polaris - A frozen planet. One of the Black Star Dragon Balls landed here.

  • Rito - A planet that was destroyed by Freeza, where the space orphans originated.

Hebi no Michi) is a 621,300 mile road, located in the Otherworld, above Hell, and leads from Emma-Daio's palace to North Kaio's planet, and is the only method of getting to the latter (other than teleporting). It took Goku 207 days to reach the end at an average speed of 125 miles per hour. In the anime, it is also the home of Princess Snake, an anime-exclusive filler character who falls in love with Goku.

  • Shamo - A planet enslaved by Paragus and Broly. A neighbor planet of New Vegeta.

  • Shikk - A planet conquered by Nappa, Raditz, and Vegeta in three days. Dodoria and Zarbon teased them saying they'd be able to do it in a much shorter time span.

  • Tigere - Home planet of a tiger like creature. One of the Black Star Dragon Balls landed here.

  • Vegeta – The planet Vegeta is seen only briefly in the anime and manga, and there is little information given as to its exact nature. What is known is that Vegeta possesses ten times the gravity of planet Earth. The planet Vegeta was home to two races: the Tsufurujin and the Saiyans. The Tsufurujin were a diminutive race, native to planet Vegeta, who lacked physical strength and toughness, but were very intelligent and skilled with technology. By contrast, the Saiyans were human-sized, but very strong and brutal. The saiyans killed off the Tsufurujin, and took the planet for their own. Freeza soon took over, and used the saiyans to take over planets. He eventually destroyed it to keep the Super Saiyan of legend from emerging.

  • Yardrat – The planet where Son Goku learned Shunkan Ido.

  • Zoon – Home planet of Pui Pui, with a gravity of 10 times that of Earth's.

Hyperbolic Time Chamber

The Hyperbolic Time Chamber is a chamber kept at Kami's lookout. Inside is another dimension where a year in that dimension is of equivalence to a day outside the chamber. This is where Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, and a lot of the other Z-fighters go to train before the androids, saiyans, and before fighting Cell. But it can only be used once by each person.

The Basics

Attacks

This information was taken from the source at the bottom of the attacks section...if I have time I will probably make my own up, but since there is a lack of time I will just cite the source I take it from.

12 Eyes

This is a technique used by Tien where he splits himself into four different entities. Each Tien entity created can fight and be attacked. The only problem with this move is that each of the four entities of Tien only has a quarter of the power and the speed than if there was only the one original Tien. Later in the series Piccolo and Cell learn how to use this move also.

Big Bang Attack

A huge bolt of incredible destructive power, used only by Vegeta. In fact it was one of the first attacks Vegeta developed as a Super Saiyan. He holds one palm flat, directs it out towards his enemy and then launches the devastating blast. It is the way that he finishes many opponents off.

Body Change

The leader of the Ginyu Force, Captain Ginyu, uses this attack. He spreads his limbs out, and then shouts "Change Now!" shooting out a bolt of energy, and when contact is made with his target, he changes bodies with that person. After that he gains the strength and speed of his target, but not his own special techniques. After changing bodies, Ginyu can still do yet another Body Change if he should choose to. It is first introduced to DBZ in the fight between Captain Ginyu and Goku.

Burning Attack

This is Future Trunks' trademark attack. After coming back from the future, during the battle with Frieza, he first introduces this awesome maneuver. He holds out both hands forward, index fingers and thumbs touching, and then unleashes a powerful energy blast. This is the attack that finally killed off Frieza for good.

Chou KameHameHa

This is almost an exact replica of the KameHameHa, but with a couple of differences. It is far more powerful, and is capable of causing more extreme amounts of damage. The downside is that it takes far longer to charge up, and can in fact take a toll on your body. It also uses a lot more energy, meaning you can't maintain it for as long as a regular KameHameHa. This is outdated as the series goes on though, with bigger and better attacks such as the Genki Dama (Spirit Bomb) being learnt.

Crusher Ball

An attack performed by Jeice, a member of the elite fighting squad known as the Ginyu Force, the crusher ball contains an awful lot of power. It is a large ball, about the size of a basketball, which is bright in tone, and orange in color. Jeice balances this on one hand, then throws it at his opponent. This is his special attack, and we see him use it against Goku, narrowly missing, but causing enough distraction for Ginyu to gain the upper hand.

Death Ball

This is a small ball of energy that Frieza can create from either the tip of his finger or with both hands. While small, it is very powerful, and can even destroy planets. In fact he used this attack to destroy both Planet Namek and Planet Vegeta (Goku’s home planet). He also attempts to destroy Planet Earth with this monstrous technique, but is soon to be prevented by Future Trunks.

Destructo Disk

This in my own personal opinion, is one of the most effective attacks in the whole DBZ series. It is a flat, disc-shaped energy blast, which can be used to slice through its target with deadly accuracy. Krillin was the first person to have ever possessed this incredible technique, and has the skill to control the destination of the attack as well. He would have killed the almighty Nappa, during the battle with the Saiyans on Earth, if it weren’t for Vegeta warning Nappa at the last moment not to touch it. Krillin also uses this attack to slice off Frieza’s tail during the battle on Namek. Many other DBZ characters like Vegeta, Frieza, Cell and Android 18 have their own variations of the “Destructo Disk”.

Eye Laser

This is an attack which can prove very useful to the user. The attacker concentrates his or her energy, then lets loose with two compact beams, one from each eye. The strength of the beams is dependant on that of the user, but it tends to be powerful enough to finish off opponents of approximately the same strength. The first time we see anyone using this is when Piccolo does it whilst training Gohan. It doesn't cause any damage to him, but that's because Piccolo purposely made it weak. Frieza can also use this technique.

Gannet Gun

The Gannet Gun is basically Vegeta's answer to the Kamehameha. He powers up the blast exactly like the Kamehameha, but when he releases the blast, his hands are both palm-forward. It truly looks quite awesome, but not quite enough to beat Goku’s Kamehameha in the Saiyan Saga.

Genki Dama

One of Goku's most powerful techniques, which he learned from King Kai while training in the “Next Dimension”. The Genki Dama (Or Goku's Spirit Bomb in English) is a large ball of energy gathered from every living life source in the local surroundings, which lend him their energy. However, the main weakness that this attack possesses is that it takes a lot of time to gather the energy for a Genki Dama. Whilst he sticks his arms up in the air, preparing to receive all of this energy, Goku is defenseless and open to attack.

Instantaneous Movement

This is one of Goku's most popular techniques, one that essentially allows him to teleport to any place where he can sense KI. He learnt this whilst on Yardrat, after Namek had exploded. He uses this a lot in the series, and in films too, as it proves a useful ally to him.

Kaioken

Taught to him by King Kai whilst training in the “Next Dimension”, this is primarily a power-up move. When Goku uses this technique, he flares up and gains a large boost to his speed and power. Goku can also use this as multiplied power to his Kaioken. At first, he shouldn't have been able to go past 2 x Kaioken without seriously endangering himself, as warned by King Kai, but eventually can increase the power of the Kaioken to around a 20 x Kaioken.

Kakusandan

Krillen used This technique during the fight with the Saibamen. He shoots a blast from each hand, controlling the blasts so that they merge and then directs it above the heads of his enemies. Thereupon he splits the blast again into many smaller ki bolts that rain down upon his enemies. A very effective technique which wiped out virtually all of the Saibaimen.

KameHameHa

The Kamehameha is a technique created by Master Roshi. It is a huge blast, which is charged up, and held behind the firer in cupped hands, then brought forward to release a large blast of energy. Goku later develops the ability to control the direction of the blast, shoot one from his feet, or with a single hand. He almost defeated Vegeta with this awesome attack, with the help of a little Kaioken. His son Gohan also learns to use this powerful move, as does Yamcha, Krillin, Tien, Goten, Cell, Cell Junior and Majin-Buu.

Kikouhou

The user places his hands to form a triangular shape, and then concentrates enough energy to power it up. He/She then rains down on the opponent with blasts of incredible power. It is used by Tien, and is his more powerful attack. The major downside to it though, is that because of its sheer strength, it drains the life force of the user, with the possibility of killing him/her. As long as the user stays alive though, they can fire as many Kikouhou's as they wish.

Masenko

This is Gohan's trademark energy blast, and is fairly powerful. Gohan powers up a blast over his head with both his hands, one palm behind the other, then brings his hands down in front of him to fire the blast. He uses this move fairly often in Dragon Ball Z.

One-Finger Beam

A fast, sharp cutting beam shop out of one finger, used by Frieza. This beam contains amazing power for its demeaning size, and can slice through almost anything. Cell also uses this attack, due to knowing all Frieza's techniques, and kills Trunks with it. Frieza managed to kill Vegeta and Trunks with his attack, although it wasn't strong enough to so much as hurt SSJ Goku.

Racoome Boom

Essentially a mouth beam, this attack is performed by the showoff member of the Ginyu Force - Racoome. He opens his mouth wide, and emits a blast of incredible power, capable of destroying much of the landscape. It is his most powerful attack, and almost kills Vegeta upon him using it. If he would have got a hit, it would have certainly finished the Saiyan off.

Renzoku Energy Dan

A machine gun KI attack, used by pretty much anyone who knows how to form balls or beams of energy. It is fairly powerful, especially if the defender is caught off guard, as many beams can be fired home, and the ones that hit have more power than the last. It is good as a distraction tactic too, firing a few of them before charging up a really big attack to finish it off. The disadvantage is that this attack can take its toll on the attacker, due to the large energy drain.

Solar Flare

This technique is originally Tien’s. The user puts his hands in front of his face, says "Solar Flare," and lights up very bright, so much that he blinds his opponent. This technique was used a lot throughout Dragon Ball Z. Tien taught this move to both Goku and Krillin, which comes in handy during the fight with the Saiyans.

Special Beam Cannon

This is certainly Piccolo’s most powerful move in the whole series. A pair of penetrating blasts from two fingers, one going straight into contact, whilst the other coils around the first for drilling power. This thunderous attack can go through anything it hits, and eventually blows up when it hits something big enough. Cell and Cell Junior also learn how to use this devastating technique.

Spirit Bomb

An attack used by Yamcha, which isn't even close to having the power that Goku's possesses. It is far quicker to charge up though, and doesn't feed off the energy of the planet. We first see this used when Yamcha was in the room of Spirit and Time, fighting against some Saiyans. He gathered the energy in one hand, held onto his wrist with the other, and let rip with the beam, which didn't cause too much damage.

Time Freeze

One of the best attacks ever used in DBZ, Time Freeze completely stops time for as long as the caster can hold their breath. This is usually about half a minute. Whilst this attack is up, the user may use any energy attacks that he/she wants to, and annihilate their opponent. Guldo is the only one whom we see use this, and he does it very effectively, using it to get himself out of trouble. It is one of his special moves.

Zanzoken

This is a technique used by all of the powerful warriors. They move so fast that they leave an after image behind, making it look like they are somewhere else. The most famous use of this is probably when Goku did it to avoid Frieza's cutting disc attack. It allows the user to attack from another point, catching the enemy unawares.

Different Races

Saiyans

The Saiyans are a warrior-race from the planet Vegeta. They are like mercenaries carrying out missions for others, and also sometimes for their own pleasure. Saiyan blood has certain characteristics like having a tail, being able to transform into a giant ape with increased powers with a full moon, and having a thirst for combat. When they fight they get excited about the new challenges about to come up. Also after a Saiyan fights they get stronger so they can be deemed the ultimate race because there is no limit to their power. But Freiza almost completely killed all the Saiyans by blows the Planet Vegeta up. The only full blood Saiyans alive are Goku and Vegeta; and it's only with a pure blood is one able to attain Super Saiyan 4 and above.

Nameks

This race is the race who made the Dragon Balls. If they were to go extinct the Dragon Balls would disappear. These people a peaceful, and have a caste like system appearance, with their small villages. They don't need to eat any food to survive, all they need is water; which is why the Planet Namek, and the New Namek Planet are filled with Water.

Other

Other includes every other being in the show which ranges from aliens like Freiza, to humans. There seems to be a vast amount of other races as seen in the many planets that Goku, Pan, and Trunks travel to in GT.

Transformation Guide

This is the transformation guide for Saiyans. Only pure-bloods can become Super Saiyan 4 and above though, but Gotanks and Goku are the only two to attain Super Saiyan three.

Super Saiyan 1 [SSJ]

A Super Saiyan was all legend until Goku had achieved this level of strength. With his extreme power boost Goku is entitled with extreme power. The body cannot handle this massive power; therefore, it transform. Goku's eyes become tall and his hair turns a bright gold that spikes up. A flamming aura is surrounded by Goku in this state. Goku first turns into a SSJ(Super Sayian) when combating Frieza. A saiyan achieves this transformation when one experiences intense emotion. This empowers Goku to the point of where he transforms. Of course Goku does not need to go through intense emotion every time he wants to transform. When one trains the SSJ powers they can transform with the slightest amount of emoution and with less muscle strain. Though the SSJ transformation is awesome supposedly it taints one's soul. This is shown where Goku is not able to use the spirit bomb as a SSJ. The people who were abe to attain this level are Goku, Vegeta, Furutre Trunks, Gohan, Goten, and Trunks. But Goku and Gohan are the only two who are able to obtain the full power of SSJ for during the cell games they train so they can become comfortable in their SSJ forms which allows them to draw the most power of of the SSJ form.

Ascended Form[Ultra Saiyan]

In this stage of power Goku abstains a massive power boost. His stats go up and so does his muscle tone. The flamey aura from SSJ turns into a raging aura with flames violently around Goku. Not only that but his hair is also affected for in this form it spikes out more horizontally than strait up. In Ultra form his hair juts out unlike in his previous SSJ from. In the picture is a difference of SSJ Goku and Ultra, Ascended, form of Goku (right). Also electricity starts to revolve around Goku as a sign of him being close to becoming a SSJ 2. But this stage is only showing an imperfect SSJ 2. Since this form increases muscle mass Goku becomes slower. Even though his hits would conflict pain he would be too slow.

"This form has a weakness. It's too slow." -Goku

Super Saiyan 2 [SSJ 2]

Here Goku is in his Super Saiyan 2 form. This form is a little stronger than Ultra form, but a lot faster then the Ultra form. This form one can say is the perfected form of Ultra. I am not sure by when Goku obtains this, but I believe it is after his battle with Cell and before he comes to visit earth. When Goku is in his SSJ 2 form his hair becomes more vertical. Unlike the Ultra form's jutting hair SSJ 2's hair is almost all vertical except for a few bangs. Also the muscle mass does not change much but the speed and strength are greatly increased. Also in this form electricity flows around Goku's body as the golden aura explodes away from his body. Gohan is the first person to achieve this form. It is said that SSJ 2 taints your soul even more. This is notable when we see Gohan fight Cell. Gohan wants to make cell suffer so he prolongs the fight and keeps on beating him. It almost seems like the higher level of SSJ the more one gets closer to their saiyan instinct, to kill.

Super Saiyan 3 [SSJ 3]

Here Goku is in his Super Saiyan 3 form. I believe Goku is the only person in the series who is able to sustain SSJ 3 except from Gotanks. SSJ 3 takes up great amounts of energy so one becomes depleted very fast. Goku gained SSJ 3 when he was dead in the otherworld, after Cell. SSJ 3 greatly strains Goku's body for he can only remain in it's form for a while. In Dragon ball GT Goku tries becoming SSJ 3, but his shrunken body cannot handle the massive powers of SSJ 3 and is not able to use it to its’ fullest against Bebi Vegeta. People think that Vegetto could go to SSJ 3, but he only stayed in his SSJ form. In this form Goku's eyebrows disappear, being replaced with muscle I would presume. His muscle tone increases, his aura of energy almost becomes sort of wavy in a way. I am not complete sure for I have seen his aura in many different ways. The main difference is Goku's hair. It grows extensively long, almost to his feet. His hair also sem sto become more thick for it has less, but bigger blades of hair. This form surpasses all other SSJ froms thus far in speed, and power, but it consumes too much energy.

Golden Oozaru

Goku achieved this state in GT when fighting Bebi. In order to become a golden Oozaru Goku had to grow his tail back. This involved grinding coffee beans and then using a set a huge pliers to pull the rest of this tail out. When turning normal Oozaru Goku had to stare at the moon, but when he was on Bebi's planet Goku stared at the earth which triggered his transformation. Once transformed GOku got massive amounts of energy. The only problem was tat he could not control himself in this state, putting many people's lives in danger. Goku had gained control of himself when Pan showed GOku pictures of the good time, on the beach, having fun, with his whole family. Once GOku gained control he transformed. This state does not last very long. This is only helping Goku reach the next level. I do not believe Goku can transform into this stage again for he never does.

Super Saiyan 4 [SSJ 4]

This is the form Goku gains when he gains control over his Golden Oozaru state. His hair turns black, as before, and is untamed, all over the place. Unlike the other SSJs Goku's hair is not in any particular position. His eyes get outlined red and his body has a red fur around it. His tail is now red and is kept. The electricity carries from SSJ 2. Goku still has his golden aura that surrounds him. There is some rumor that SSJ 4 is not really a Super Saiyan state. For all the other SSJ forms had golden hair , and this time he does not. People believe that this form is indeed another form from SSJ. An ascended form of the SSJ forms. But since the series says it is SSJ 4 I am going to stick with that. In this form Goku almost becomes invincible. He gains enormous speed and power. It does not have any cons what so ever to my knowledge. This form has so much energy that Goku's body actually grows to it's normal height when he turns into a SSJ4. This is where the series stopped and SSJ 4 was the final one...or was it?
